Pap died last night. My dad's dad was a good man. I have lots of fond memories of him. He was diagnosed one week ago with a brain tumor. He was sent over the weekend to the nursing home in Corsicana and went very quickly. I saw him a lot this last week and was able to be there when he passed. That is something I am grateful for, but am not sure if I'd wish it on someone. Nonna is doing surprisingly well. I guess it was harder on her to see him suffer and fade away. Pap had an impact on so many people. Two words that come to mind when I think about pap are Patriarch and Regal. He had such a confidence and excelled at everything he did. HE held and brought our family together. I can't explain the regal part. I guess Nonna liked gold lions to decorate and it made me feel like Pap was the King. His room mate at "the home" was in the room when he passed. The curtain was drawn and we could hear him sobbing. He didn't know pap personally, but watched Uncle Marky and Dad play football in Corsicana and Pap coach. When Pap first got there, his roomie wheeled himself over and said "hey coach!" and they talked football. Pap bought Lauren, Joni and I our first bra's at Kmart on a grocery run. we HAD to have them! Joni traded hers in later that night for a cookie. His hair was grey for a while, except for the bottom inch on his hairline. We always said it was from the chlorine. He was always cleaning the pool and never went all the way under. Just the dark part of his hair went under water. We were the smoking police when we were little (later we stole his cigs to smoke them). He took us with him to get a new pack and we gave hi such crap he bought us each lottery tickets to shut us up. I won $2. He almost died when I was in college. He had lung cancer from all those cigarettes and had lived for the last 8 or 9 years on about 1/4th of a lung. He was 82 and was loved my many. I will miss him greatly. We go back thursday for the memorial.
So I got home last last night. Jared took yesterday off because Hadley was sick. No one slept Sunday night. So I was exhausted Monday already. I even slept under my desk at lunch. I got a second wind when my mom called with the Pap update. Today Had was still whiny so we went to the Dr. Kennedy has RSV and our Dr thinks its just a cold (WHEW!) So we stayed home. It was nice. We even got some vitamin D at the park with Sugar this afternoon. Hadley doesn't like to swing, LOVES to slide!
