*When did you change your child's crib into a toddler bed?
*What do they need to be able to do for that stage?
*I read dentist at 2 but someone told me 1. Which is right?
*How old were you kids when they were potty trained?
*Hadley naps really well at school, not not well at home. Do I make her stay in her bed until she figures it out?
*If she skips nap time, should she go to bed earlier or will this throw off her sleep schedule?
*I am thinking about not taking her to school this summer. She will be transitioning around May to the 18 month old room. Would it be easier for an 18 month old to go tot eh new room everyday and leave early with me? Go 2-3 days a week? or just go cold turkey in August?
*If we don't go to school this summer, how many activities are too many? Some of the stay at home's I know do library one day, mall one day etc. There are a few toddler gymnastics, but Sugar said too many germs. true or false?
*Going to Mexico this summer. Have to get a big girl swimsuit that wont hurt my feelings. (bye bye bitty bikinis) suggestions?
Please answer.
Kristy- My bookshelf is from Shelfari and they have a link that will put it on your blog for you. :)
Any questions for me?

Maddie-I catch up with you often...you Culwell girls make me laugh!
I thought I'd take a stab at some of your questions...
#1 We put Reese in his "bunk beds" at 13 months. We were moving into a new house and I didn't want to put the crib up in the new house. So I decided he needed to know about the big boy bed before we moved. He got out of it ONE time and one time only. I say the earlier the better.
#3 My mom works for Dr. Nash - a dentist in Lubbock. They don't see kids until 4 unless there are problems. So, we will take Reese then.
#4 I potty trained Reese at 26 months. It took me a week. I stayed home everyday and by day 4 he was fully potty trained. Most boys we know aren't trained until 3 but I thought I'd try it and it worked wonderfully. My step-sister trained both of hers (a boy and a girl) at 18 months.
#5 We have/have had nap problems too. We make Reese take a nap the same time they nap at his school. It stinks because on Saturday/Sunday it's hard to have him down by 12:30 but it's kept us sane and kept him on schedule.
#6 If we skip nap, we got to bed at regular time.
#7 We were in the same boat as you as far as the summer and daycare thing. When he was 18 months, I took him all summer for 3 hours a day. He would get up and go with Garrett when Garrett would go to work and then I would pick him up around 11 or so. It worked wonderfully for us.
#8 We are big activity people. I try to do something with Reese everyday. He did take "Mom and Tot" gymnastics. He LOVED it. It was a great experience for us. However, he is now in soccer and Garrett said gymnastics has to go because its for girls. There are some great websites that could help you decide what to do. I LOVE No Time for Flash Cards. This summer, we are going to do "Letter of the Week". I want Reese to start learning to write his letters.
Also, did you know that Chick Fil A does free breakfast on Tuesdays with a purchase of a drink? Get a group of moms together and go on Tuesdays and that can be Tuesdays activity...
As far as the germs, when are they not exposed? Going to the mall can be germy as can out to eat...
1. last weekend! Megan is 26 months but over 37 inches tall. She leaned over the rail and fell on her head once a few months ago and we freaked out. We tried to convert her to the toddler bed then and she freaked out!! She never fell out again but the doc said at her 2 year checkup that she was too big and needed out. So 2 months later ...
2. We started teaching her to be under the covers like a big girl and she uses a little stuffed animal as a pillow. That really seems to be what made the difference. We anchored her dressers to the wall just in case and put child proof doorknob covers on all the doors in her room.
3. Our pedi didn't recommend a dentist until her 2 year checkup. We still haven't gone. :)
4. I guess it's time to potty train. *sigh*
5. When my girls don't sleep I leave them in bed until they get really pissed. Then I investigate (diaper, hungry, cold, etc) and give up. Screaming is a chain reaction around here.
6. No nap = early bedtime (and a good bottle of wine)
As for activities ... germs are everywhere and I don't think she'll pick up anything at gymnastics/mall/library that she wouldn't get at school. Had will let you know if you're keeping her too busy. We aim for 2-3 days of out-of-the-house fun.
Swimsuit ... honestly, I'm so old, but I liked the Lands End swimsuits (they carry them at Sears of all places) but you can mix and match all colors, styles, sizes etc. If you're really at a loss for a suit, and can handle going in to Sears, check them out. No idea what they look like this year though ... so don't make fun of me if they're ugly. :)
#1 Jack - 22 months because of Cooper. Cooper - 28 months when we bought bunk beds
#2 Nothing, Jack didn't know he could get out of his bed for at least 6 months it was AWESOME!!
#3 I have heard 2 but Jack had an accident at school around 18 months and we started going to the dentist regularly after that. Cooper started at about two. The last time we went they went back by themselves it was awesome. One of my good friends is a pedi dentist if you are looking for one.
#4 - Jack a month shy of 3 years, cooper - 26 months (pure awesome)
#5 - I would keep working on it, she probably knows you are a sucker :)!
#6 - I can get away with that for my kids, depends on the day. If behavior is horrible then hell yes!
#7 - I say enjoy the summer with her!
#8 - Crap everywhere!! My kids are much happier out. We can schedule splash parks and sewing playdates!
#9 - If a big group is going I am inviting myself :), didn't you order 1200 last time??
hey maddie! i don't know all the answers but i always think i know best. :)
1-we booted avery so the baby could have the crib, i was told when they start trying to climb out, then we just went to big boy bed with a side rail. i don't understand the toddler bed thing.
3-our pedi said 2 1/2 for the dentist or earlier if you want to build a relationship...
4-i am DREADING potty training.
5-avery is an on again off again napper, but i usually make him lay there awhile, i need a break
6-i don't know
7-do what works best for you. you might like 1-2 days a week to do your school stuff or get things done.
8-we LOVED waterbabies!!! it would be so good with your pool, too. tell sugar to chill she already gets germs at target and northpark. :) i liked a few activites, but too many means no time for lounging or spontaneous fun.
9-lands' end, i know grandma, but they have good support and sizes, some aren't so bad if you mix and match well. they have control top, too
BTW - don't bother with Sears. Forget I ever mentioned it. Run away. I'm sorry, unless you're buying tools that store is just gross ...
