Tucked In

I like to be tucked in at night. But, I forgot about this until last night.

Lauren and I were always tucked in when we went to bed. There is a very specific way to do it "correctly" according to our childhood. We loved being tucking in so much, if we woke up in the night we would have to weigh the options of getting up and un -tucking or staying put.

Sugar learned how to make a bed from Mimi who learned a specific way to tuck in sheets from her husband, Grandaddy. Grandaddy was in the army (WW2) and they had a very specific way of tucking in the sheets. If the sheets were tucked in the "right" way, you could flop around and the covers would not only stay tucked into the mattress, they would be tight. When Sugar made our beds (yes, she made our beds for us. the word you are looking for is enabled) we would sit on the pillow and make our bodies as flat as possible to slide under the tucked in covers. I have never mastered the "tucked in" sheets. Much like I have never mastered Sugar's chicken fried steak, chicken salad, ironing skills and the ability to fold a king size fitted sheet to a flat 5x7 square.

I was reminded of all this last night. Hadley didn't take a nap yesterday (my fault- and she was pretty happy through out considering it). She was "overtired" and didn't go down easily. She started crying at 10:30 and I went in there to a wet faced baby reaching for me and we went to the guest bed. Hadley likes to snuggle ("spoon") like me, and since J doesn't Had gets to snuggle a lot. So I crawled into the guest bed from the pillow and thought "my goodness! this bed is tucking in wonderfully!" and I remembered... Sugar did it! It was a happy warm-fuzzy discovery! Any after a good nights sleep for a rolley poley baby and a night of being kicked in the face, stomach etc, the covers were still tucked in this morning!

Guess we should have "sugar lessons" this summer.
