The Honorable Judge
Mike Line was my Dads best friend. They became friends in college. Mike even told us a few edited stories from their golden days in Abilene...
For our birthday my Dad would take Lauren, Meghan, Jenay and Me camping in Ruidoso. There was always something that went wrong. One year it was so cold our toes froze together and turns out Dad and Mike slept in the car! Another year, Dad got really sick and poor Mike had to entertain 4 teenagers for a weekend. It was always fun to spend time with the Lines. We never watched tv, after dinner Mike would get his guitar and we'd all sit and laugh the night away.
In college, if there was ever a "misunderstanding" with law enforcement officials, Mike was the first call made. Technically he was the second. When your in the back of a cop car you dial Lauren first- then she puts out the alert to the Judge. Not that this ever happened...
I remember one night a "Gino's Vino" (which is now a fancy car in uptown) we had a big dinner. We closed down the restaurant and had wine and even moved all the tables so we could dance! Mike performed both Lauren and my weddings. We wouldn't get married in a church that wouldn't let him officiate. We will always remember the great influence and impact he had on our families.
About ten years ago Mike was diagnosed with breast cancer. He beat it and a few other types, but last week after many painful months he went to heaven.
My heart is heavy for his sweet family and for my Dad. Papaw died earlier this year, now his best buddy.
We will go to Ruidoso this week for Mike's memorial.
